Grab your camera and set sail with Davey's Locker or Newport Landing for a whale watching cruise you won't soon forget! You'll board the Ocean Explorer, a 65-foot-long vessel and sail just outside of Newport Bay to witness the magnificence of blue whales, humpback whales, killer whales, and even pods of dolphins, sea lions, and marine birds. Binoculars will be supplied so you can view everything around you, whether you're taking it all from inside the boat or outside on the wrap-round deck. Feeling peckish? An onboard snack bar sells food and beverages to keep you going. Feeling curious? Your captain and crew are experienced in marine biology and can answer any questions you have on marine creatures, the environment and ecosystems.

Davey's Locker has been serving the Los Angeles and Orange Counties for more than 30 years, providing thrilling whale watching experiences just outside of Newport Bay. The primary ship used for whale watching is a 65-foot long vessel that was specifically designed for whale watching, complete with a large upstairs sundeck, wrap-around outdoor seating and on-site snack bar. Guests not only view whales on each cruise, but have the opportunity to speak with captains and crew workers, whom all have extensive backgrounds in marine biology and welcome questions on marine creatures, the environment and ecosystems.

We have the opportunity to see whales year round but every single trip is different! Throughout the Summer/Fall we have the chance to view charismatic humpback whales, giant blue whales, magnificent fin whales, three species of dolphins, sea lions, and more! Winter/Spring is peak gray whale season as 20,000 whales pass our coast on their annual migration from their Alaskan feeding grounds to their Mexican breeding grounds.

Can the boat handle wheelchair passengers?

While we do everything we can to be accessible for all guests, we do at this time still require guests to take 2-3 steps by themselves or with the help from family and friends, to get on and off our vessels.
