Whether you feel the need to get tougher, or just want to whip your body and mind into optimal shape, Aikido is the way to go. Aikido is a non-violent Japanese martial art developed in the early 1900's with traditions and customs that date as far back as the caste system in feudal Japan. It's practiced in a cordial atmosphere without the element of competition and it's based on the principles of energy exchange and respect of your partner. Students quickly learn basic movements, holds and falling techniques. The Aikido calligraphy consists of three characters, A, K, and D, which stand for harmony, energy and path, respectively. The word as a whole roughly translates to "the way of harmonizing with universal energy."

Aikido Academy Los Angeles founder and head instructor Michael Jacyna began his practice of martial arts at age 8. As a young man he opened Aikido dojos in Opava and Prague in the Czech Republic and discovered he had a lot of followers of his fine craft. He travelled Europe, Asia and the U.S. extensively, regularly attending and holding camps and seminars. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and opened Aikido Academy Los Angeles in 2011. Jacyna is a 4th degree black belt and is fluent in English, Polish and Czech and welcomes both American and international students at the dojo.
