THE RUNNERS: Runners wear a belt with 3 flags (think flag football). The flags represent your life - they are your body parts. Complete the course with any or all of the flags and you will be a survivor!
THE PARTY: At the after party, music and vendors will highlight the theme of survival by promoting being fit and ready for disasters

Mud. Water. Obstacles. ZOMBIES. The world is overrun, and the only humans left alive have become sprinters in order to survive. The Austin Zombie Charge course is more than an off-road adventure race in wooded trails, open fields and muddy bayous. It's more than just a race, it's about survival. No chips to time you, no competition! There is only one goal in this race, just make it to the Safe Zone successfully without getting attacked by Zombies. All throughout the race there will be Zombies around every corner and wanting to rip you from limb to limb. At Zombie Charge Runners, will overcome 8-12 obstacles while zombies try to take your 3 flags! If the unfortunate event happens where the Zombies infect you and obtain your three flags, there is hope! All you have to do is make it to the Safe Zone because there is a Doctor to revive your infected body and bring you back to life just in time for the party. Want to chase the runners? Sign up as a zombie and get a professional makeover to turn you into what runners fear the most! Come in your best costume and let the team do the rest to turn you into a walkin', stalkin', hungry zombie. You can walk, crawl, or run after the living, whatever scares the runners and the most efficient way to capture their flags and infect them. Just remember, stay in character! Once your lucky self reaches the end of the 5K, you'll be rewarded in a big way. Head over to the Survival party, which is located in the Safe Zone. Interact and take pictures with "trained" zombies, enter in contests, play games, listen to live music, food trucks, treat yourself to a beer, and shop from vendors. Don't miss out on the party! With Zombie Charge, there is also great meaning behind the 5K. They support different charity organizations in Texas. Will you end up a survivor or become one of the undead?

The location was great, there was food available, beer and the shirts were better than any other race I have done. The only problem is that the course was so confusing, there were switches made during the race, no one knew where they were going. The whole course was misleading with no direction. We ended up running the distance but not sure if we did the right order. Could have been more zombies throughout the race as well.
