More Information

What was once just a dream or science fiction fare, is now finally within reach! Be among the first civilians to fly at mach speed to the edge of space. Don a white space suit before boarding the spacecraft and then its just 15 seconds between firing the engines and take off.  50 seconds after that you go supersonic, and very close to vertical. You are pushed back in your seat and are going more or less straight up at about mach 3! Three minutes after firing the engines, you have blasted to 180,000 feet. Then the engines cut off and you have about a minute and a half of zero gravity while you coast up to peak altitude of 350,000 feet. Then another minute and a half of coasting back down until there is enough atmosphere for the vehicle to "feet" it. It takes about a minute for re-entry and the pull out, and then about twenty minutes of gliding home to land.

The spacecraft seats only the pilot and the passenger. As a passenger you'll be expected to get involved during your adventure. You may be asked to perform tasks such as reading instruments and making sure dials are holding steady. You will be able to look down at the earth; you will be able to look out at the stars in the daytime as well as out and down to see the thin band of the earth's atmosphere. If there is a particular location on the earth that you want to see they can steer the spaceplane to look at the Grand Canyon or another area of interest. Then you will have time to look around and take in the view that so few have seen before. Earn bragging rights of historic proportions, by being one of the first thousand people to go to space!

About

Moonandback Travel is a space travel agency specializing in off-the-planet excursions. They are an Authorized Space Agent for Space Expedition Corporation (SXC) which is the space line, analogous to United Airlines. XCOR Aerospace is the spaceplane's manufacturer, analogous to Boeing. XCOR Aerospace has a proven and industry-respected record of manufacturing air-worthy, rocket-powered aircraft. XCOR has been building rocket engines since 1990. They have built 15 generations of rocket engines. They have fired approximately 5,000 rockets on the ground and completed 67 flights on two different types of rocket airplanes. All tests and flights were successful and without any safety incident. They are the world leader in commercial reusable rocket propulsion.

Taking off with rocket power is as safe as any other take-off. This way of launching is comparable to a fighter aircraft taking off with afterburners. Before the spaceship takes off the pilot determines whether the rocket engines are performing well. Engines are checked while the spaceplane is on the ground. This adds a safety margin. If there is anything wrong, the pilot will abort the take-off and simply stay on the ground, just like any other commercial airliner.

Flight-testing of the Lynx spaceplane is projected to begin this summer with the first FAA-approved flights to space projected to begin later this year.
