What We Love

The Full Marathon course starts in Yorba Linda, California and heads down the Santa Ana River Trail
The Half Marathon course starts around Angels Stadium and runs to Huntington Beach
The 5K course is an out and back course. It starts at the finish for the Full and Half and runs 1.55 Miles out and back on the Santa Ana River Trail

The Socal River Marathon is presented by On Hill Events which was established in 2007. Since 2007 On Hill Events and its staff has race directed over 120 races. Every year On Hill Events has worked hard to increase its standards of excellence. They have trained hard with organizations like USA Triathlon and USA Track & Field to gain certifications like USAT Certified Race Directors and USATF approved club. Every time they do a race they learn better ways to serve you from better signage, bettter trained volunteers, better medals, better t-shirts and more. It is their goal to be the best race organization they can be. It is their hope to organize the best race possible for the best price.

The event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak, understandably. However, Joe Coles (Race Director and Owner of On Hill Events) has got to be the most unprofessional individual. Apparently, the organization already spent all $27,000 that was raised from the registration fees on the park reservation, hotels, shirts, medals, etc. and none of which is refundable. I can understand some being nonrefundable but a "park reservation?" That does not make sense to me. So instead of realizing that it is their fault, they are simply not allowing individuals to receive a refund. They will however let you defer your fee for a race next year, but not without an additional charge of $10 for a "processing" fee. Even the virtual race comes with a $10 additional charge. Lastly, everyone who was registered for the event received multiple emails from Joe (the owner) giving details about his life story and how the Coronavirus has affected his life personally which is why he cannot give any refunds at the moment. He also had the nerve to ask if anyone knows people who are hiring; trying to sell himself to each of us for a job. How is that in any way professional? I get it, everyone is hurting during this time, but that does not give any organization the right to basically steal money for a service that was never performed. I'm surprised there has not been a class action lawsuit filed yet unless I am not aware of it, but I am sure there will be one soon.

Terribly handled situation. Race director is a con artist who is still forcing us to pay more money for next years race.
