Writer Dias Gomes one penned, "The capoeirista is an artist, is an athlete, is a player and a poet." Indeed, Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art, is known for combining elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. Sometimes referred to as a fighting technique, other times referred to as a game or a dance, one thing is for certain: Capoeira brings people together in peace and strength, channeling mindful power in the body, the brain - and the community. Developed mainly by African descendents living Brazil in the 16th century, Capoeira has become widely popular as a fantastic way to stay fit and get the endorphins flowing - in fact, it is known to be one of the fastest, most effective means of achieving physical fitness, all while having fun and clearing one's mind. The New York Capoeira Center offers classes from Beginner to Advanced, 7 days a week, all year long - and all ages, body types and genders are encouraged to give it a try. Unleash your strength, connect your feet with the earth, your head with the sky, and your heart with your best self - and dance!
The New York Capoeira Center, or NYCC, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, is renowned internationally as a teaching center for children and adults to learn capoeira and come together in fitness and mindful community. CAQ Teachers travel internationally, and participate in festivals and performances! The NYCC offers classes 7 days a week all year long, and performs in events, parties and shows of all kinds!
