Description

Grab your camera and set sail with Davey's Locker or Newport Landing for a whale watching cruise you won't soon forget! You'll board the Ocean Explorer, a 65-foot-long vessel and sail just outside of Newport Bay to witness the magnificence of blue whales, humpback whales, killer whales, and even pods of dolphins, sea lions, and marine birds. Binoculars will be supplied so you can view everything around you, whether you're taking it all from inside the boat or outside on the wrap-round deck. Feeling peckish? An onboard snack bar sells food and beverages to keep you going. Feeling curious? Your captain and crew are experienced in marine biology and can answer any questions you have on marine creatures, the environment and ecosystems.

Davey’s Locker is located approximately 40 minutes from downtown Los Angeles and just minutes from most of Orange County
You must reserve your whale watching & dolphin cruise by calling Davey's Locker
A supplemental charge of $10.50 per person applies only for cruise times Mon.-Sun 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Additional $4 charge for all weekend cruises. No supplement charge before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Monday - Friday
Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your departure time
Infant tickets (ages 0–2) are $5 available for purchase on the merchant’s website
Parking options on the Balboa Peninsula include the public parking lot next to the Balboa Pier, the parking structure next to Newport Landing, and valet parking next to Balboa Pavilion. The public lot next to the Balboa pier is your best choice. There are also metered parking spaces around the pier public lot and these spots are free after 6:00pm
Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather
Along with bringing the right clothing for the Newport Beach Boat Parade other items that are great to have include a map of the area, camera, cash/change, contact number(s), snacks, blanket, and thermos full of a hot beverage

Davey's Locker has been serving the Los Angeles and Orange Counties for more than 30 years, providing thrilling whale watching experiences just outside of Newport Bay. The primary ship used for whale watching is a 65-foot long vessel that was specifically designed for whale watching, complete with a large upstairs sundeck, wrap-around outdoor seating and on-site snack bar. Guests not only view whales on each cruise, but have the opportunity to speak with captains and crew workers, whom all have extensive backgrounds in marine biology and welcome questions on marine creatures, the environment and ecosystems.

We have the opportunity to see whales year round but every single trip is different! Throughout the Summer/Fall we have the chance to view charismatic humpback whales, giant blue whales, magnificent fin whales, three species of dolphins, sea lions, and more! Winter/Spring is peak gray whale season as 20,000 whales pass our coast on their annual migration from their Alaskan feeding grounds to their Mexican breeding grounds.

Can the boat handle wheelchair passengers?

While we do everything we can to be accessible for all guests, we do at this time still require guests to take 2-3 steps by themselves or with the help from family and friends, to get on and off our vessels.

The first time I went it was 2 years ago. My first time ever being on a boat and whale watching. I had enjoyed the view I didn't see and whales but some dolphins. The second time I went I had taken my kids they had a ball and enjoyed seeing more dolphins than I had seen when I went. I like the fact that this time around we had a tour guide that gave us an insight on what we should be seeing and a little dolphin history which was awesome. If you're looking for a relaxed boat ride and the view of the ocean this is the trip to take. Staff was very courteous and welcoming which is a plus.

We had an excellent whale watching trip. On the way, we sighted several Pacific White-sided dolphins. We were lucky enough to see a juvenile Grey whale and followed at a close (but safe safe for the whale) distance for a while. That was so exciting! On the return, we were escorted by some of the Pacific White-sided dolphins. It was fun to watch them race along side of our boat. Our captain and crew did an outstanding job pointing out the wild life along the way. We will definitely take this whale watching tour again. Thanks!!

Need to inform people Whales won't be seen. Poorly organised. Staff were moody and unhelpful. Didn't see anything on 1st trip was offered free trip. Saw dolphins. Second boat was nicer. Wait for the months where it's likely to be seeing whales and save your money and time.

The ability to see whales up close is an amazing experience. However, I felt a little bad for the one whale that we did see, because our boat, along with several smaller boats were chasing the whale. After a really close encounter with the whale, it ended up getting far away from us. On the other hand, the pods of dolphins were loving the attention. The boat was also packed up to maximum capacity, making it a little challenging the get the best views of these awesome gentle giants. Next time I'll consider going on a smaller, more intimate whale watching cruise.

Amazing price for this experience and the staff is amazing. We booked on a very windy day and they gave us the option to pick a new day for free. Not there to just take your money, they are passionate about your experience and passionate about the ocean life.

It was an okay experience - not super exciting, but about what was expected. The merchant was a bit disorganized as the instructions sent us to one location while the boat was managed from a different location a few blocks away. Despite asking everyone to arrive 30mins early, they did not board the boat until a few minutes before the scheduled departure and then ended up departing late as the boat waited for passengers who arrived even after the scheduled departure.

The trip took off when stated on ticket, no delayðŸ˜Š, there was plenty of room for everybody. We only saw one whale but they gave us a 50% off voucher for the next time we go and visit for our inconvenience. All in all great time

I keep purchasing vouchers from rush49 and recommending it to friends. Last purchase was a trip for whale watching at less than 30% of the price posted by the service provider. Will keep looking for the opportunities they post (which are usually significantly cheaper than those of Groupon)

The boat ride was amazing. A really friendly crew. My five grandchildren throughly enjoyed this experiance. We saw a lot of Dolphins. They all canâ€™t wait to go again. I would recommend to pack a lunch thereâ€™s only snacks and the cost adds up. Also a couple of blankets. We really didnâ€™t use the binoculars. A overall great trip.

We took advantage of a very deep discount, and were not disappointed. We say many dolphins, a blue whale, and lots of sea lions and harbor seals. We had the last cruise of the day, and the captain let us stay out for longer than usual. It was a very successful outing, and a great deal!
