The California Watermelon Festival celebrates this nutrient-dense, tasty treat in all its splendor on the grounds of the Hansen Dam Soccer Complex in Lake View Terrace outside of Los Angeles. There's a Watermelon Games Arena for all sorts of crazy activities, including watermelon skiing (bring an extra shirt if you plan to participate!); cooking demonstrations, discussions with food authors who'll speak about the history and health benefits this wonderful fruit (or is it a vegetable?); kids' activities and much more.
