Bandera Natural History and Art Museum is a unique destination where art, history, and nature seamlessly come together. One of the most notable features is the New Spain Art Collection, which boasts over 150 pieces from the New Spain period (1521 to 1820). This extraordinary collection, the first of its kind in the United States, includes works from renowned artists such as Juan Correa, Miguel Cabrera, and Jose de Ibarra.
The museum also features a detailed model of the Manila Galleon Isabella, which showcases the crucial role the Manila Galleons played in transporting art and goods along trade routes from Manila to Acapulco. Bandera Natural History and Art Museum is a nonprofit organization that opened in June 2016. It is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and is a nonprofit Public Charity business with 501(c)3 status.
The 18,000 sq. ft. facility houses the Juan Infante International Hall, six dioramas, New Spain Art Collection, a conference room, Museum Gift Shop, and Café Twiga.
The Juan Infante International Hall is a showcase of international wildlife and their habitats. It features exotic taxidermy animals from Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America. The six dioramas showcase Texas Hill Country wildlife and their habitats. The New Spain Art Collection displays art pieces from colonial Mexico, including paintings, sculptures, and pottery.
