America's Finest City Half Marathon and 5K - San Diego

Get ready, get set, go! Mark your calendars for the 44th Annual America's Finest City Half Marathon and 5K coming to San Diego on August 15th. Choose your journey and run in the 5K or Half Marathon! As you cross the finish line in beautiful Balboa Park both half marathon and 5K participants will receive a top quality, technical fabric t-shirt, finisher's medal, cold water, and a finisher food bag filled with recovery treats. Then head down to the finish line festival where there will be local vendors, live music and a beer garden featuring Ballast Point craft beer. • Should 2021 AFC be unable to take place in person as planned, egistered participants will have the choice of switching to a virtual participant or deferring to the following year
• Medical assistance will be available at the start and at the finish
• Walkers are allowed for both races, but a time limit of 3.25 hours for the half marathon will be strictly enforced
• The AFC Fitness Expo will take place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina (1380 Harbor Island Dr, San Diego, CA 92101) on Saturday, August 14 from 9am to 5pm
• All participants must pick up their bib number with timing tag attached and race shirt at the one-day expo (you must have your photo ID)
• If you’re unable to attend the expo, you may authorize someone to pick up your items for you. This person must come with a photocopy or electronic copy of your photo ID
• If you’re unable to attend the AFC Fitness Expo and need to pick up your bib number on race day, select the “Race Day Bib Number Pickup Convenience” option during your registration ($20)
• There is a 1-hour time limit for finishing the 5K.  All participants must be able to maintain a 19:21-minute-mile pace or faster throughout the event
• Gear Check for the half marathon will be available through Mobile Locker ONLY. Locker rentals give you a secure, convenient storage option for your gear at the start line. You can pre-purchase a locker during registration or on race day.
• Small: 6″x6″x9″ - good for a small layer, keys, wallet, and other small items - $10
• Medium: 11″x6″x18″ - best for small to medium bags - $15
• Large: 12″x12″x18″ - best for larger bags and backpack - $20
• There will not be gear check for the 5K
• All half marathon participants must take the shuttle buses from Balboa Park to the start and there are no pickup locations along the way. More shuttle details are available here
• Public parking is available throughout Balboa Park and the surrounding area. Allow yourself at least an extra 30 minutes for parking
• The largest parking lots are off Park Blvd. at the intersections of Park Blvd./Zoo Place and Park Blvd./Presidents Way. Both lots are close to a bus loading location for the half marathon start line. All half marathon participants must take the bus to the start line.
• The closest parking lot to the 5K start/finish line is the lot at Park Blvd./Presidents Way.
• Only race participants with a current bib are allowed at the start and on the start line shuttles
• Water and Nuun electrolyte replacement will be served along the half marathon course and portable toilets will be located at each of the support stations. Course support will remain in place based on a 3.25-hour finish pace
• The use of headphones is discouraged; however, if you choose to use them, it is recommended you keep the volume at a level at which you are ardare of your environment, can hear course directions and any emergency situations that may arise
• Both the half marathon and 5K are run on certified and sanctioned courses. The half marathon certification number is CA11106RS and the 5K certification number is CA13083RS
• There will not be an award ceremony this year
• Strollers are not allowed in the half marathon, due to a steep downhill on the half marathon course. Strollers are allowed in the 5K but must line up towards the back of the pack at the start line
• Dogs or pets of any kind except for service animals are not allowed at the race or the expo

The 44th annual America's Finest City Half Marathon is run on a fast, scenic, point-to-point course. The race starts at the historic Cabrillo National Monument at the tip of Point Loma with its world-renowned vistas of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, follows scenic San Diego Bay and Harbor Island along the Embarcadero to the Star of India, winds through downtown San Diego and ends in beautiful Balboa Park.
