Things To Do This Weekend in Los Angeles – 2/12/16

Things To Do This Weekend is back, so we all know what time it is. It’s time for the weekend!

Can you believe the temperature this weekend? Is it summer already? Did someone forget to turn off the heater? Did someone tap the Earth’s core and forget to mention they put the exhaust pipe right above Los Angeles? I know it's El Nino season, but come on! I got a bunch of nice sweaters for Christmas that I've only used once! But if life gives you lemons... open up a lemonade stand. Here’s our forecast for the weekend.

So it’s gonna be a hot and dry weekend. Let’s make to use this warmth before we get washed away by the incoming El Nino rains. So what're the things to do this weekend in Los Angeles?

Friday Night - LA Art Book Fair – After Hours

Free and open to the public, the LA Art Book Fair gets over 250 international presses together in downtown Los Angeles for a free weekend showcase of books and zines. After the LA Art Book Fair ends at 6:00PM on Friday (let’s be real here. Most of us have jobs that don’t let us out until at least 5:00PM), there is a free after party on the Ace Hotel for anyone 21 or older. There will be art, music, and literature exhibitions to see and engage with. It does run Saturday & Sunday as well. So if you already have plans, feel free to stop by later this weekend.

Saturday Day - Golden Dragon Parade

Chinese New Year is traditionally celebrated with a parade, and in Los Angeles, it’s traditionally celebrated at the Golden Dragon Parade. Taking place in downtown Chinatown, the Golden Dragon Parade is celebrating its 117th anniversary. If that doesn’t blow your mind about how much awesome Chinese culture is infused into Los Angeles life, I don’t know what will. There’ll be food trucks, a beer garden, ping pong, and more. Plus, there are a bunch of kid-friendly activities too. So get involved with a culture that’s been here for over a century. Then make a drive to Griffith Park.

Saturday Night - Griffith Observatory Public Star Party

If you haven’t been to the Griffith Observatory yet, then you have got to get up there. And Saturday night is a great time to go. Take into account that we’re gonna have a nice weekend, party hard at the Griffith Observatory’s Public Star Party. Starting at 2:00pm to 9:45pm you can go right after you’re done with the Golden Dragon Parade. You can look at the Sun (should be there during the day) and see the moon, planets, and other stellar objects.

Sunday - Watch the L.A. Marathon

This weekend seems to be all about Los Angeles traditions, so let's throw another Los Angeles staple that's happening this weekend: the Los Angeles Marathon. Unless you’ve been training for and are registered to run it, you should go watch it. And I don’t mean to watch it on TV. Head down to the route and just watch the runners run by. I know that sounds odd, but after a little bit of time, you start seeing all of the super-athletes give way to the average joes just like you who have trained. After watching these guys and girls run by for 30 minutes, you tell me if you’re not super impressed, super happy for them, and also super inspired.

Sunday Night - Last Minute Valentine's Day Plans

Assuming you forgot or just have been wracking your brain for things to do for V-Day, you can check out a couple of suggestions I've made before here and here. Hopefully you find them helpful, and if you do, give some feedback!

So that’s it for our Things To Do This Weekend. Let us know in the comments what you plan to do next weekend, and don’t forget to like us on Facebook.

See you next week!
