Preparing for Your First Bucket List Experience

Get in the Mindset

The day is almost here for you to check that first item off your bucket list. It may have been years in the making, or a few weeks. Regardless of the experience, you want to make sure you’re ready to go, both mentally and physically. Even if your chosen experience doesn’t involve getting too active, it’s always a good idea to be prepared. You never know what could happen along the way! We’ve gathered five sure-fire ways to help you get ready for your first bucket list experience, ranging from mental to physical preparedness. Cross out that first experience today!

Start Saving

You’ve set the day that you’re going to cross off the first experience on your bucket list. That day may be a week from now or a year from now. It may end up costing quite a bit of money like a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Bali, or it might be completely free like hiking a challenging trail. Whatever it may be, it’s important to be prepared so you can enjoy the experience to the fullest. One surefire way to achieve this is to start saving up immediately. Whether that’s pulling money out of your paycheck or sticking $1 bills in a mason jar, make it work for your experience. There’s nothing worse than finding out you can’t cross that item off your list because you’re a few – or a few hundred – dollars short.

Build the Excitement

Time is ticking and you’re getting closer to the day you get to cross that first experience off your bucket list. You don’t want to come and go under the radar, but rather you want to share with your friends and family just what this means to you! Start a countdown on social media, whether that’s a picture every day of your calendar with the days getting marked off or something else to signal one day closer. If you’re going on a dream trip, share the top things you’re looking forward to. Whatever it is, don’t let this experience be just another day; find a way to make it special!

Read Up

More than likely, there are other people who have done the same experience you’re getting ready for and have shared their story. If you’re traveling to a destination, read what other people thought, from recommendations on where to go and what to do, and even places to avoid. If it’s a signature experience like skydiving or bungee jumping, reading other people’s experiences on what to expect can be very helpful to get you mentally prepared. Having a solid knowledge base before jumping head-first into something can only help! While you may want to have an air of mystery going into your first bucket list experience, having at least a baseline idea of what you’re getting into is always a good idea.

Exercise

There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and being unprepared. If your first experience may test you physically, prepare for it by getting into the habit of being physical. Whether that’s going on a daily run, hitting the gym a few times a week, or picking up a yoga class or two, if your body is used to being in motion, your first bucket list experience will not only go much smoother, but you’ll get more enjoyment out of it. Depending on just how demanding your chosen experience is, you may want to try a three-day juice cleanse or slightly modify your eating habits. If you feel you’re already well-prepared to handle what’s about to come your way, you’re already ahead of the game!

Find the Perfect Partner

Sometimes a bucket list experience warrants someone coming with you. Make sure that person is not only up for whatever the task may be, but is also good company. We’d suggest bringing your best friend or significant other, or to make it even more memorable, bring a member of your family, like a parent or sibling. Only you know what type of energy will be beneficial in a partner on your adventure, and if you’re better suited to going alone, that’s good, too. However, you still might want to bring someone along for moral support or to capture some ideal shots of you doing your chosen experience. At the end of the day, you know what you need to make this first bucket list experience one for the ages.
