It’s raining and pouring, and we’re worried about our day being so boring. But have no fear. There are a bunch of things to do when it rains. We can even go outside!
I know some people believe, “We’ll get sick when we go out in the rain.” But that’s a myth. I’m pretty certain it was started by parents who didn’t want their kids tracking in mud. For starters, the rain doesn’t get you sick: viruses or bacteria get you sick. What will get you sick when it rains, believe it or not, is staying indoors. You stay indoors when it’s cold and wet, so you’re more likely to spend time indoors with people who are sick.
So hell, let’s look for things to do inside and outside.
Dance in the Rain
Come on, when was the last time you just went and played in the rain? I clearly have to add the disclaimer that you should be careful and cannot be held responsible if you hurt yourself, but honestly, it’s so much fun to just go out in the rain. Wear things you don’t care about, and run (carefully) out the door.
Go For a Run
This is another one that seems like it’s no fun until you have to do it. I know we like staying warm and dry during a rainy day, but you’ll definitely manage to burn off some heat as the rain washes away your heat. Double check to make sure your shoes have their soles intact, throw on a poncho, and step outside. You’ll find it enjoyable, kind of like swimming.
Go For a Swim
Speaking of swimming, and assuming it’s not freezing outside, go for a swim in a pool (stay away from the ocean). It’s not like you won’t be wet already, and a heated pool could do you some good. If you can find a Jacuzzi or hot tub, even better. I find that people are always so afraid of the rain, and I find it’s just because their clothes get wet. If you’re just down to your swimsuit, what do you care? Get out there and swim.
Workout Inside
Maybe we should find some things to do that’re inside? If you already workout in your own home: great, do that. If you’ve never done it before, maybe it’s time to give it a shot. All you need is a clear space on your floor that’s as big as you are, and you’re good to go. If you need some help figuring out what to do, here’s a list of core exercises you could do to get you ready for summer.
Rearrange a Room
Since you’ve found a new place to workout, why not just rearrange a room? Clean it up, throw away stuff you don’t want or need, and beautify the whole place. It’s perfect to do on a rainy day. If you take the stuff outside, you will never want to bring it back in (since it’s soaked in water). Why not have some fun with it? It is spring after all, and I’m certain that a bunch of us haven’t completed their spring cleaning yet.
Host a Party
Maybe you did numbers 4 and 5, so why not make something extra special out of it and host a party? The best time to host a party is when everyone wants to be inside. Make a last minute party happen and invite people over. Pull out some board games, get some snacks, and make it like a rainy day while you were in school.
